history
The parent company Hansawerke Ernst Berning GmbH & Co. was founded in 1888. Today's company, Berning Smart Fasteners, Berning + Soehne GmbH & Co. KG , was spun off in 1959 and continued to operate independently. Well-known fashion brands such as Brax , Pierre Cardin , Mustang , Tommy Hilfiger , Gant , G-Star and Esprit are now among its customers . Berning is often seen as a pioneer, especially when it comes to denim products. Almost 40 million parts are made from over 150 different articles every year. A normal rivet consists of up to three parts, a head of up to five parts.
Company profile
Berning sees itself as a company with a closed production and logistics cycle. From ideas for the collection to production planning and customer communication to delivery, all steps take place in the Wuppertal plant. The application of the patina , a thin surface layer, called the finish , is particularly complex . A brass part is copper-plated , painted white several times and unrolled and finally patinated, dried, painted, rolled out and bagged in a special bath. Berning also supplies its customers with its own machines for fastening these buttons.
Other activities of the company are the production of logos for leather goods or knives as well as the patented clips for Burlington socks. In addition to the production of articles for the fashion industry, the automotive industry is also supplied. Speed locks and speed caps are supplied, for example, to help attach exterior mirrors, seat belts or airbags. With a wastewater coefficient of 1.0, the company is also a leader in environmental technology.
