The G-Star brand is a Dutch jeans and fashion brand as well as a clothing manufacturer.

history

The brand was originally founded in 1989 under the name "Gapstar" in the Netherlands and Belgium . The current seat is in Amsterdam .

The first collection was designed together with the help of the Swiss brand Big Star . Gapstar renamed itself to "G-Star" in 1993, as the company expanded internationally and a legal dispute over the name rights threatened with Gap Inc. In 2003 Jos van Tilburg took over “G-Star” from the Secon Fashion Group.

The G-Star jeans are particularly well known . Other products include jackets, T-shirts, pullovers, coats, hats and shoes. The G-Star Elwood for men, which has a round seam at the level of the buttocks, is one of the brand's best-known jeans models. The pants are primarily made from denim .

G-Star store

G-Star has come under fire for violations of OECD guidelines and labor law violations in the Indian jeans factories of "Fibers and Fabrics International" (FFI) and its subsidiary "Jeans Knit Pvt Ltd". International arrest warrants were issued against activists of the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) and the India Committee of the Netherlands (ICN) as a result of a claim for damage to the reputation of the FFI . On December 6, 2007, G-Star terminated its business relationship with the FFI. In the meantime, in consultation with the CCC, ICN and FFI, the FFI workforce has been assured of legal assistance and freedom of union. As a result, G-Star is working with the FFI again. The international arrest warrants were also withdrawn on January 29, 2008.

To this day, G-Star uses the claim “Just the Product”.

criticism

Greenpeace criticized the brand because it used highly toxic substances in its manufacture. As a result of the Detox campaign carried out by Greenpeace , G-Star and 22 other manufacturers have committed to banning toxins from their clothing.

Designer

In 1991 the French designer Pierre Morisset started working for G-Star. In 1994 he signed the contract as full-time head designer. Morisset helped create the famous G-Star Elwood. Originally he wanted to study architecture .

Models

In 2010, G-Star hired Norwegian chess grandmaster and world number one Magnus Carlsen and actress Liv Tyler as a model . Kasabian guitarist Sergio Pizzorno and dancer Keenan Kampa stood in front of the camera for the fall / winter 2013 campaign .

collaboration
