Marc Andrew Newson , CBE (born October 20, 1963 in Sydney ) is an award-winning Australian designer and entrepreneur.

Life

In 1984 Newson graduated from the Sydney College of the Arts with a major in jewelry and sculpture. Via Tokyo and Paris he made his way to London, where he has been based with a partner since 1997.

Marc Newson is a creative designer at Qantas ; other well-known customers are Boucheron , Dom Pérignon , Leica and TASCHEN . He has also been working for G-Star since 2003 and for Apple since 2014 . He is co-founder of the watch company Ikepod . Newson sells his furniture through the influential gallery owner Larry Gagosian . In 2011 he received the Lucky Strike Designer Award .

Trivia

His work fetched top prices at auctions: Sotheby’s auctioned one of his three Lockheed lounge chairs for $ 968,000 in 2006; In 2009, Phillips de Pury & Company selected another copy of the aluminum loungers at £ 1,100,000.

In 2005 Time magazine named him one of the 100 Most Influential People of the Year.
