Lucky Strike Designer Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lucky Strike Designer Award is € 50,000 the most valuable design award in Europe. It has been awarded annually by the Raymond Loewy Foundation since 1991. The founder was the world's second largest cigarette company British American Tobacco ( BAT ), which handed over the management of the Raymond Loewy Foundation to Stilwerk GmbH in 2013 . This non-profit foundation under civil law honors internationally renowned designers whose work or life's work is said to have improved daily life in social or cultural terms.

The selection of candidates for the Lucky Strike Designer Award and the Lucky Strike Junior Designer Award as well as the annual nomination are made by an independent jury made up of design professors, successful designers and other representatives of the art and design scene (see point “ Jury").

Creation of the Raymond Loewy Foundation

After a major Raymond Loewy exhibition in Berlin in 1990, which was sponsored by BAT's Lucky Strike cigarette brand , the Raymond Loewy Foundation came into being in Germany . Its aim is to remember the life and work of the designer Raymond Loewy and to give the design the status it deserves in public. Similar foundations were later established in other countries. The Raymond Loewy Foundation serves the BAT Group as an integral part of the Lucky Strike brand and PR strategy .
