Bernward Rechel

Bernward Rechel (born August 27, 1948 in Halberstadt ) is a former German politician ( CDU ). In 1990 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport in the GDR .

Life

Rechel learned the profession of electrician and later qualified from air traffic control to engineer for air traffic control. He became a member of the CDU. On May 20, 1979, he was elected for the first time as a member of the district assembly of Berlin-Treptow and then as a district councilor for urban technical supply, traffic and communications.

In May 1984 he was re-elected as the city district councilor and at the same time deputy to the city district mayor for city technical supply, traffic and communications. In June 1989 he was confirmed in this position. During the change in the GDR , Rechel rejected calls for resignation and exercised his mandate until the elections on May 6, 1990.

In April 1980 he was elected to the CDU district board of Berlin-Treptow and in 1985 as deputy chairman of the CDU district board. Later, as chairman of the district blocking commission, he had to decide on traffic restrictions in cooperation with construction companies, the people's police , the BVB and the district planning commission.

In February 1990 he was elected a member of the state executive at the founding party convention of the CDU regional association in Berlin. During the formation of the de Maizière government in May 1990, he was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Transport.

Rechel is married and has two children.
