The BERO is a shopping center in Oberhausen and is located on Concordiastraße in the center of Oberhausen. The shopping center, which opened in 1971 and has been renovated several times, is one of the oldest in Germany. It was the first closed shopping center in the Ruhr area and offers products and goods for short and medium-term needs on a sales area of ​​44,000 m². The BERO was opened on April 1, 1971 on the site of the former Concordia mine and officially opened on October 14, 1971. Due to a small fire in 1974 and a major fire in 1983, the Bero had to be renovated. In 2013, work began on modernizing and expanding the shopping center by 16,000 m² to 44,000 m². The topping-out ceremony was on May 13, 2014, the final completion on September 26, 2015. The total investment of the owner consortium was 40 million euros.
