Berschweiler (Heusweiler)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Berschweiler is a district of Heusweiler .

history

The part of the name Weiler, which is derived from the Roman Villare, suggests a first settlement between 800 and 1200 AD. In the so-called Turkish appraisal that took place in 1542 , the "Bersweyller Meigerey" is listed with four households. An inventory from 1757 shows that seven families, a widow and two rear passengers lived in Berschweiler at that time. All residents were serfs of the Saarbrücken princely house and lived from agriculture. In addition to the ten houses in the village, there was already a mill, which later became the Berschweiler oil mill . In 1793, Prince Ludwig revoked serfdom and thus ended the four-hundred-year rule of the Saarbrücken Princely House. In 1798 the French established the " Département de la Sarre ", with which all places became separate communities. The "Commune de Berschweiler" was now independent and was listed in 1809 in the "Classement Parcellaire et Évaluation" with 15 houses and two mills.

In 1815, after the Second Peace of Paris, all territories of the County of Nassau-Saarbrücken became the property of the Kingdom of Prussia . From now on, Berschweiler belonged to the mayor's office of Heusweiler, but remained independent and formed its own local council with a community leader. Triggered by the two new mines in Dilsburg and Göttelborn, Berschweiler experienced population growth. So it came about that Berschweiler built its own school in 1864.

In 1918 the community of Berschweiler had 237 inhabitants. After Berschweiler joined the Weiherzentrale association in 1921, it received electricity in 1923. In March 1924 Johann Weyland and Konrad Groß founded their own local SPD association. In 1936, Berschweiler was merged with the communities Heusweiler, Bietscheid, Dilsburg, Hirtel and Rittershof to form the entire community of Heusweiler.

With its incorporation into the "German Reich" as a result of the referendum of January 13, 1935, Berschweiler was not spared from the National Socialist "Gleichschaltung". Since Berschweiler was in the middle of the West Wall during World War II , some bunkers were built from 1938. With the construction of these, many people came to the village. Fortunately, there was no fighting in Berschweiler. In 1937, a Reich labor camp was built in Berschweiler on the site of today's building yard .

In the post-war period, agriculture and mining were of particular importance. As a result, the mining crisis had devastating consequences for Berschweiler. The number of miners in Berschweiler fell to zero. Since then the infrastructure has deteriorated more and more. Since the beginning of the twentieth century there has been neither a bakery nor a restaurant in Berschweiler, let alone any other shop.
