Berther is a Swiss family name . The name originally comes from the Cadi in the canton of Graubünden and was mentioned as Berchta in the Tujetsch in 1300 . The Tujetsch line provided numerous cadis from 1425, but was only influential in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Origin and meaning

The family name is of Walser origin. The settlement of the communities of Sedrun and Disentis is probably after the foundation (720) of the monastery Disentis , in 8/9. Century began.

The High Court of Disentis has often elected a Berther to the Mistral, and the gray federal government has also awarded a member of this family its highest official status several times. They are also represented among the Veltliner officials, in the service of the church, as well as among the judges. Fifteen members of the family are named among the Mistrals of the Cadi.
