Hartmut Wenzel

Hartmut Wenzel (born February 23, 1947 in Berlin ) is a former German rower who ran for the German Democratic Republic until 1969 and for the Federal Republic of Germany from 1975.

Wenzel won his first East German league title in 1966 when he became the helmsman a racing community of rowers of the SC unit Dresden and the TSC Berlin contributed to victory. For the World Championships in Bled, the TSC rowers stayed in the boat and were supplemented by four rowers from SC Dynamo Berlin ; this Berlin racing community won the bronze medal. In 1969 Wenzel was the helmsman of a four-man at SC Berlin-Grünau ; all rowers had belonged to the GDR eight in 1966; this boat took second place behind the boat from the Federal Republic of Germany at the European Championships in Klagenfurt. In 1970 the four of SC Berlin-Grünau took second place behind the ASK Vorwärts Rostock boat in the GDR championship .

In 1971 Hartmut Wenzel practiced his sport in the Federal Republic of Germany, he had joined the rowing club at Baldeneysee (Essen). At his very first start in the championship, he won the German championship title in 1971 with the Essen four-man. After the runner-up in the eighth in 1972, Wenzel won the German championship title in the eighth in 1973. In 1974 another championship title followed with the foursome. In 1975 Wenzel drove a foursome with four rowers from four clubs, which took third place at the world championships. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , the four started with the line-up of Hans-Johann Färber , Ralph Kubail , Siegfried Fricke , Peter Niehusen and Hartmut Wenzel and won the bronze medal as in the previous year. In 1977 Wenzel drove the Germany eighth to bronze at the World Cup, in 1978 he received the silver medal with the eighth.
