Ralph Kubail

Ralph Kubail (born April 30, 1952 in Berlin ; † August 15, 1981 ) was a German rower who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany.

Kubail started for the Potsdam RC Germania in Berlin. In 1969 he was junior world champion in the four-wheeler without a helmsman , the following year he took third place. In 1972 he took second place in the German championship with the club four with helmsman . In 1973 at the European Championships in Moscow, Kubail was in Germany eighth when the boat finished fifth. In 1974 he switched to the four with a helmsman; In the line-up of Hans-Johann Färber , Ralph Kubail, Peter-Michael Kolbe , Peter Niehusen and helmsman Uwe Benter , the boat took third place behind the boats from the GDR and the Soviet Union at the World Championships in Lucerne. In the following year Dieter Knief competed in Nottingham instead of Kolbe and Hartmut Wenzel instead of Benter, the boat won the World Championship bronze again, the Soviet boat won ahead of the boat from the GDR. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , the four started with the line-up of Hans-Johann Färber, Ralph Kubail, Siegfried Fricke , Peter Niehusen and Hartmut Wenzel. Behind the boats from the Soviet Union and the GDR, the boat won a bronze medal at the season highlight for the third time in a row.

For winning the bronze medal, he received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Walter Scheel together with his rowing team .

Ralph Kubail died in 1981 of lymphatic cancer.
