Berthold Schauer

Berthold Schauer (* in Blaubeuren ; † before 1496 in Salzburg ) was a German master goldsmith who worked in Salzburg.

He received Salzburg citizenship in 1446 and is mentioned as active until 1477, when he died in 1496. He is credited with a house altar with mother-of-pearl carving , dated 1494 today in the Metropolitan Museum . It is regarded as the main work of medieval Salzburg goldsmithing and came to the Metropolitan in 1969 as a gift from Ruth and Leopold Blumka .
