Berthold Wassmer

Berthold Waßmer , also Wassmer (born January 29, 1886 in St. Blasien , Black Forest; † September 11, 1969 in Ettlingen , Baden) was a church musician and composer from Baden .

Life

Berthold Waßmer was a teacher from his training and had his first job (1910-1919) as main teacher and church choir conductor in Bernau in the Black Forest . His main place of activity was Ettlingen: 31 years as a teacher at the Schillerschule (1949–1951 as its rector) and 33 years (1920–1953) as organist and conductor of the church choir at the Herz-Jesu-Kirche there.

During this time he composed numerous choral works for church use, but also secular pieces. In his works he paid homage to the romantic direction in an idiosyncratic way.
