Berthold Wilhelm Gerhard Römer

Berthold Wilhelm Gerhard Römer (born March 7, 1836 in Oldenburg ; † July 30, 1905 there ) was a German archivist . From 1871 to 1888 he was director of the “House and Central Archives ” of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg (today's name: Lower Saxony State Archives (Oldenburg location) ).

Life

Roman's father was the Oldenburg politician Friedrich Wilhelm Anton Römer . His mother was Katharina von Buschmann (April 12, 1810 - September 4, 1884), a daughter of the Russian State Councilor Gerhard Friedrich von Buschmann (1780–1856) , who came from Oldenburg . He had a sister Johanne Gerhardine (1832-1887). Römer passed his intermediate examination in 1859 and graduated in 1865. In 1864 he was an auditor in the Westerstede office . In the following year he was assigned to the government secretariat in Oldenburg. In 1871 he took on the business of archivist at the “House and Central Archives” among other functions, from which he was released in 1888. He was appointed Ministerial Councilor in 1874 . In 1876 he was head of the court and private chancellery, and from the following year he was a consultant at the State Ministry. In 1895 he was appointed secret councilor at the Ministry of State. In December 1900 he retired.

Römer had been a corresponding member of the Association for Mecklenburg History and Archeology since 1885.
