Bertolt Brecht Literature Prize

The Bertolt Brecht Prize has been awarded every three years by the city of Augsburg , Bertolt Brecht's hometown , since 1995 (the award was brought forward one year in 2006 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Brecht's death). Since 2018, the award has been made every two years. With 15,000 euros (as of 2020), the prize is one of the most highly endowed literature prizes in Germany.

The award is given to personalities who “have distinguished themselves in their literary work by critically examining the present”.
