Professionjörður
Type Fjord

The Berufjörður is about five kilometers long fjord in the district Barðastrandarsýsla in northwest Iceland . It is an eastern branch of the Breiðafjörður .

The fjord is located in the southern West Fjords (Barðarstrandasysla).

The Reykjanes peninsula separates the fjord from another arm of the Breiðafjörður , the Þorskafjörður . The small town of Reykhólar is located at the mouth of this fjord in the larger Berufjörður.

The shape of the mountains is determined by the proximity of a central volcano from the Tertiary . There is a lot of rhyolite rock . On the other hand, the mountains here were abraded far more in the later Ice Age, so that they do not rise so high. The intrusion chimneys of Vaðalfjöll are about 500 meters high. The dense growth of dwarf birch trees around these mountains and also on the Reykjanes peninsula prevents the color of the ground from being seen from far away.
