History of the vocational college

The school has a history of more than a hundred years.

  • 1891 - Establishment of an "agricultural winter school": boys at the age of 15 were taught. The young men were admitted to the winter school for two winter semesters (November to March) at a cost of 20 marks per semester. At that time the curriculum included: Basics of chemistry, general and special animal breeding, physics, general economics, bookkeeping, German language teaching, arithmetic and spatial theory, drawing and field measurements, crop production, agricultural management and religion.
  • 1928 - Expansion by the "rural girls 'training school": 37 years after the establishment of the winter school for boys, on November 6, 1928, a girls' department with 24 students started operations. The areas of responsibility were preparation for the role of housewife, mother and partner on the farm. Subjects such as family studies, civics, cultural studies, social studies, health care including nutrition, child and nursing, home economics, merchandise, agricultural management, livestock, natural science, horticulture, cooking, needlework, home care and religion were on the curriculum.
  • 1960 - Relocation to Kettelerstraße: The inauguration of the new main building took place in 1960. In 1966, the two-year housekeeping school (vocational school for domestic economics) was introduced with expanded teaching in general education. For this purpose, an extension was created in 1967. In 1986, a new course was added for the first time with the establishment of the “Part-time technical college for social pedagogy”. In 1988 the vocational college was expanded to include a new course, the vocational school for social and health care, specializing in health care.
  • 1989 - The expansion at the Frechen location: Up until the 1970s there were many vocational school locations in the Erftkreis. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the vocational schools were reorganized according to occupational fields. When the vocational school for bakers from Horrem had to leave its building due to exposure to asbestos, they were looking for alternative accommodation and the choice fell on Frechen. In the course of the establishment of a focus on the location, the “Body Care” department came to Frechen in 1992. In 2009, training preparation was relocated from Bergheim to Frechen due to a lack of space. The system of lessons in “day learning situations” specially developed for this department in 2010 received increasing attention.
  • 2019 - Inauguration of the partial new building In 2019, a partial new building was inaugurated on the Kentener Wiesen. In the new, modern rooms, especially the pupils of the departments “Body Care” and “Education and Social Affairs” are trained. The location on Ket-telerstraße has been extensively renovated and now offers modern learning environments for the “Health”, “Nutrition / Supply” and “Training Preparation” departments. Both locations have extensive digital equipment.
