The Berzelius Metall GmbH , based in Braubach near Koblenz is a composite of four companies in Germany with a focus on lead production and lead recycling.

The association includes:

The BBH lead smelter in Stolberg is one of two remaining primary smelters in Germany in which primary lead is extracted from ore. BBH also produces Güldischsilber . This arises when the precious metals are separated from the lead. Güldischsilber contains 99.6 percent silver as well as gold and platinum components.

The Berzelius locations BSB in Braubach and MRU in Freiberg are secondary lead smelters. The secondary lead smelters obtain secondary lead from the recycling of lead-containing products, mainly lead-acid batteries from the automotive and industrial sectors. Almost 100 percent of the old batteries are recycled: The plastic polypropylene (PP) contained in the batteries is processed into PP compounds of the Berzelius brand Seculene® PP. Other recycling products are acid and sodium sulfate, which are used as raw materials in industry.

The BLS takes over the collection of the old batteries and the transport to the secondary lead smelters for Berzelius.

The companies together employ around 450 people and, with a total capacity of around 200,000 t, supply around half of Germany's lead production of 403,000 t (2004).

From 1990 Berzelius belonged to the Rheinische Zinkgesellschaft , later to the Metallgesellschaft in Frankfurt and since 1996 to the Eco-Bat Technologies PLC.
