Lead smelter

A lead smelter is an industrial plant for the smelting (production) of lead . The lead smelters are often located near present or earlier lead ore deposits .

In Germany today dominate huts, scrap lead, so-called "secondary lead" remanufacture , the mostly from car batteries is recovered. A smelter that extracts lead by smelting lead ore is called a primary lead smelter.

There are several locations of former and active lead smelters in Germany, including in Stolberg (Rhld.) With the primary lead smelters Binsfeldhammer , Luzilia and Münsterbusch, as well as in Nordenham with the lead smelter of Metaleurop , in Freiberg / Saxony with the lead smelter Muldenhütten , in Braubach with the former lead and silver works Braubach and in the Harz with the lead works Clausthal and Oker .
