Best buddies

Best Buddies is a worldwide non-profit organization that aims at the social integration of people with intellectual disabilities. It is about promoting individual friendships between people with and without an intellectual disability.

history

The organization was founded in the USA in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver (* 1965), the son of Eunice Shriver - the founder of the Special Olympics , who in turn has a sister u. a. from John F. Kennedy is. The main organization is based in Miami . In 2001 Shriver had the idea to offer his programs in other countries as well. Since then, Best Buddies programs have been distributed to over 40 countries. The largest offshoot of the organization is in Canada. Best Buddies has also existed in Germany since 2005.

Foundation in Germany

Best Buddies Germany was initiated by the journalist Inga Griese - Schwenko . Founding members include entrepreneur and designer Anne Maria Jagdfeld , lawyer Sybille Naumann, media consultant and former SFB television director Barbara Groth, and Commerzbank director Gerhard Bückner, Ute Hartjen (CEO of Camera Work AG) and Martin Bussmann (New York) .
