The planted area is a term from area statistics, an area of spatial planning . It includes all areas overgrown with trees or shrub types that form shrubbery.

The Swiss Federal Statistical Office (FSO) uses the term as one of four main categories in land use statistics. The other main categories are settlement area , agricultural area and unproductive area . Wooded areas are further subdivided by the FSO into forest , shrubbery and woody plants.

In viticulture , the term planted area is also used in the vineyard statistics. There it covers the cultivation area of one grape variety . The FSO, on the other hand, counts vineyards as agricultural areas.
