The Beteiligungs-Management-Gesellschaft Berlin mbH was a successor organization to the Treuhandanstalt . After the dissolution of the Treuhandanstalt, its tasks went to January 1, 1995 z. T. to the BMGB. Beteiligungs-Management-Gesellschaft Berlin mbH (BMGB) took over around 100 not yet restructured and privatized companies (especially mining, nuclear energy) as well as minority stakes in the trust for further processing.

As the sole shareholder, the federal government had taken over the shares of the Treuhandanstalt in the BMGB (see Section 2, Paragraph 1 of the Ordinance on the Transfer of Company-Related Tasks and Participations in Companies of the Treuhandanstalt [Trust Company Transfer Ordinance - TreuhUntÜV] of December 20, 1994 [ Federal Law Gazette I p. 3910 ] ). As of December 31, 1994, the not yet privatized operational trust company or company holdings and the discontinued companies (Section 2 (2) TreuhUntÜV) and the associated company-related tasks were transferred to the BMGB. It also carries out the relevant company-related public tasks (transferred from the Treuhandanstalt to the Federal Ministry of Finance ), in particular privatization and the remediation of contaminated sites.

The Beteiligungs-Management-Gesellschaft Berlin mbH (BMGB) was merged with the Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH ( LMBV ) in early 2000 . This is responsible for the rehabilitation of the disused East German lignite opencast mines .
