Trude Meyer

Trude "Trudi" Meyer (* 13. July 1914 in Hanover ; † 23. October 1999 ibid) was a German gymnast and Olympic champion .

Life

Gertrud Meyer started for TK Hannover , she won the German championship in the all-around competition in 1936. At the Olympic Games in 1936 , after 1928, an Olympic team competition for gymnasts took place for the second time. Gertrud Meyer was the best individual gymnast in the competition. With the German team consisting of Gertrud Meyer, Erna Bürger , Käte Sohnemann , Isolde Frölian , Anita Bärwirth , Paula Pöhlsen as well as Friedl Iby and Julie Schmitt , she won the gold medal three points ahead of the team from Czechoslovakia.

For the first time an individual evaluation for gymnasts was planned for the Olympic Games in 1940 . Gertrud Meyer prepared for this competition and ended her career after the Olympic Games in 1940 were canceled.

Since 1940 Gertrud Meyer was married to the water polo player Bernhard Baier . Although she had no formal training for it, Gertrud Baier later worked as a gymnastics teacher at a grammar school.

Trude Meyer was buried in the Engesohde city cemetery .
