Federal Agency for Unification-related Special Tasks
The Federal Agency for Unification-related Special Tasks ( BvS ) emerged from the Treuhandanstalt by renaming . It is essentially responsible for contract management, reprivatisation and winding up companies in liquidation. It is also a trustee of the assets of parties and mass organizations of the GDR (PMO assets).
Legal basis
Due to the law on the final fulfillment of the remaining tasks of the Treuhandanstalt of August 9, 1994, the Treuhandanstalt's activities ended at the end of 1994. The Treuhandanstalt was renamed the “Federal Agency for Unification-related Special Tasks” (see Section 1 of the Ordinance on Renaming and Adapting Responsibilities of the Treuhandanstalt [Treuhandanstaltumbenisierungsverordnung - TreuhUmbenV] of December 20, 1994 ( Federal Law Gazette I p. 3913 )) and the responsibility for the fulfillment of its remaining tasks from January 1, 1995 to the Federal Agency for special tasks due to unification , the BMGB Beteiligungs-Management-Gesellschaft Berlin mbH and TLG Treuhand Liegenschaftsgesellschaft mbH .

completion
The last step in the restructuring was completed by the law on winding up the BvS of October 28, 2003. The president as the organ of the BvS was replaced by a liquidator. The BvS was given the opportunity to transfer its assets to the federal government, institutions or corporations of the federal government in the course of liquidation and thus create the conditions for the dissolution of the BvS.
With regard to the processing status of these tasks, the BvS itself ceased operational work on December 31, 2000 and transferred the processing of the remaining tasks to business managers. Since January 1, 2004 it has been represented by a liquidator; the administrative board and board of directors (president), which had been acting up to then, were abolished. The Federal Agency for Real Estate Tasks (BImA) has been appointed as the processor since July 1, 2008 . In addition, the BImA took over from the BvS with effect from January 1, 2014 its tasks in the field of ecological contaminated sites.
The BvS is a federal institution under public law and belongs to the division of the Federal Ministry of Finance .
