The Federal Information Technology Center ( ITZBund ) is an IT service provider in which the previous organizations, Center for Information Processing and Information Technology (ZIVIT), the Federal Office for IT Services and the Federal Office for Information Technology have been merged. The ITZBund was established with effect from January 1, 2016. It belongs to the division of the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF). The main location is Bonn . According to the decision of the Council of IT Commissioners of the Federal Government (IT Council) , the ITZBund is to be given the legal form of an institution under public law from 2019 .

The personnel transferred from the business areas of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Transport were transferred to the business area of the Federal Ministry of Finance.

The establishment of the ITZBund is a first step towards the implementation of the rough concept for consolidating the IT of the federal government . The implementation takes place in a project structure in six sub-projects, which are strategically controlled by the IT Council in accordance with the law for the promotion of electronic administration (EGovG). The merger with the ITZBund is part of sub-project 1 under the direction of the BMF. On January 1, 2017, the competence center for personnel administration and system control was separated from the Federal Office for Central Services and Unresolved Property Issues (BADV) and transferred to the ITZBund.

The ITZBund is divided into seven departments. It has 12 offices and around 3,000 employees. From January 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017, Hans-Georg Göhring headed the ITZBund. Alfred Kranstedt has been the director of the ITZBund since July 1, 2017.
