Betlem is a place (Urbanització) on the north coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located in the northwest of the municipality of Artà in the region ( comarca ) Llevant .

Location and description

Betlem is in a remote location on a narrow strip of land between the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains of Artà, which are part of the Serres de Llevant mountain range, rising south of the village . Betlem is located at the foot of the Son Morell and Puig de Ferrutx mountains . Colonia de Sant Pere is located about three kilometers west of Betlem . The Ma-3331 road coming from the west ends in Betlem. There is only a dirt road to the east to Punta d'es Calo .

The small town with 54 inhabitants (as of 2015) is characterized by smaller holiday homes in the Mediterranean style. The number of inhabitants has almost doubled since 2000, when it was 30 inhabitants. Overall, however, compared to other areas of Mallorca, the region is less developed for tourism and is characterized by the sea and the steep mountains. There are two restaurants and a retail store in the village (as of 2016).

In the direction of Colonia de Sant Pere are the remains of the dolmen of S'Aigua Dolça . A hiking trail leads south into the mountains past the Font de s'Ermita spring to the Ermita de Betlem .
