Remains of the stone box

Until it was discovered in 1995, only the dolmen of Son Bauló de Dalt was known on Mallorca . The excavations, led by Victor Guerrero of the University of the Balearic Islands , began that same year and were completed a year later. The dolmen consists of a round stone circle with a diameter of 6.75 m as the boundary of a round burial mound . The stones are set 8 to 11 cm in the ground and protrude about 50 cm. In the center there is a large stone box made of slabs that form a bulged semi-oval chamber. Access is via an antechamber and the soul hole in the southwestern plate of the stone box.

The excavation was very informative as the burial chamber was found intact. Its contents were completely preserved. The archaeologists found eight skulls, six of which were lined up, and the remains of 34 people. Only the skulls and the larger bones were stored as a package. In addition, a number of was grave goods found: votive offerings of pottery , bracelets , necklaces , arrowheads and other. The radiocarbon dating of the bones revealed that the plant last v 1750 to 1650. Was used. The location plays an important role in dating the introduction of bronze to the Balearic Islands.
