Beaches and bays in Mallorca |
Na Ferradura ('horseshoe') is a small bay with a narrow beach in the northeast of the Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located seven kilometers northwest of the small town of Artà . The bay is part of the 72.95 km² nature reserve of special value (Àrea natural d'especial interès - ANAI) number 10, Muntanyes d'Artà , according to the Natural Area Act (ANAI / ARIP) to protect the soil from construction, and a special one Bird protection zone (Zona d'especial protecció per a les aus - ZEPA) according to the bird protection directive 79/409 / EEC of the European Union .
Location and description
Na Ferradura is located on the north coast of Mallorca on the Badia d'Alcúdia ('Bay of Alcúdia ') between the town of Colonia de Sant Pere in the southwest and the settlement (Urbanització) Betlem in the northeast. The small sea inlet between the Punta de Ca los Camps and the Punta de s'Aigua Dolça is part of the municipality of Artà. The garigue and maquis of the area called es Canons is interspersed with groups of pines and tamarisks . To the south-west of Canons it is bounded by the torrent Torrent des Cocons (also Torrent de Betlem ), which flows into the Mediterranean Sea at Cala des Camps . To the northeast of Na Ferradura, the Torrent de s'Aigua Dolça cuts through the area of es Canons and ends at Cala de s'Aigua Dolça .
The shore area of na Ferradura is predominantly rocky, only at a small point in the south-east does coarse-grained sand lead to and into the water. The rock of the bay consists of arenite , a clastic limestone , the sediment deposits of which are clearly visible on the south side. There is an old quarry called Maresos , where Marès blocks were extracted. Many diadem sea urchins have settled in the crevices in the shallow water . Due to the extensive seagrass meadows in the Bay of Alcúdia, there are frequent deposits of Neptune grass on the shores of na Ferradura . The beach in the bay is rarely visited due to the limited sunbathing area. About 30 meters from the shoreline to the east, behind a bush formation, is the dolmen of S'Aigua Dolça , the remains of a megalithic tomb from Mallorca's prehistoric times .
Access
From Colonia de Sant Pere a road leads directly on the coast via Son Violí and Son Mascaró in a north-easterly direction to Cala des Camps , where the road ends. About halfway there is a connection road to the MA-3331, the main road from Betlem into the interior of the island. A hiking trail begins on the north side of Cala des Camps and leads to the northeastern settlement of Betlem. If you follow this path after crossing the Torrent des Cocons , you will reach Na Ferradura after about 200 meters .
