history

The BKK VDN was founded in Schwerte in 1866 by the company owner Friedrich Theodor Fleitmann under the name of the health insurance company of the Westphalian nickel rolling mill. When it opened in 1997, membership became possible for all those with statutory health insurance in North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony. In 2005 the merger with the BKK FW Brökelmann Aluminumwerk GmbH & Co. KG in Ense followed. Since 2007, the BKK VDN has also been open to people in Hamburg.
