Bettina Walker

Bettina Walker (* 1837 in Dublin , † February 4, 1893 in Fulham near London ) was an Irish pianist and music writer.

Life

Bettina Walker studied in the 1870s first with William Sterndale Bennett in London, with Carl Tausig in Berlin and with Giovanni Sgambati in Rome . In 1883 she came to Weimar and continued her studies with Franz Liszt . Further teachers were Ludwig Deppe , Xaver Scharwenka and Adolf Henselt . After Henselt's death (1889) she settled in London, where she taught her methodology of piano lessons, but died four years later.

Her memoirs, in which she describes in detail her numerous encounters with important musicians, are of lasting importance.
