Bag stand

Pouch stand ( Codex Manesse Heinrich von Veldeke)

The term bag stand has two meanings in heraldry .

Once a bag-shaped high hood with tassels is called that, which is placed on the coat of arms helmet without a helmet bulge and forms an additional image surface for heraldic figures , similar to the umbrella board . This auxiliary gem has become rarer since the 16th century and consisted of painted leather or fabric.

The other time a fool's cap is covered with this expression. A double-lipped cap with small bells on the tips is generally referred to here. This term is common in older heraldic literature. This fool's cap can appear in the coat of arms as well as in the escutcheon .

In the Codex Manesse there are several pictures with this helmet gem: Kirchberg 24r, Kristan von Hamin71v, Kristan von Lippin 226v., Brunwart von Augheim 258v and Marner 349r.
