The District Court of Winterthur is the first instance in civil and criminal proceedings in the Winterthur district in the canton of Zurich .

The district court has its seat in the district building constructed between 1876 and 1879 by the architect Ernst Georg Jung . That in the style of Neo-Renaissance building, constructed initially served the Swiss part of the Lloyd Insurance Company as its head until it in 1883 after a bribery scandal in bankruptcy went. Then Winterthur Insurance took over the building as its headquarters until the canton bought the building for the district court in 1931. In 1925, an attic floor was added to the building.

The district building is a national monument.

In the immediate vicinity of the old district building is the new district building with the seat of the Zurich canton police and the Winterthur / Unterland public prosecutor's office.

Before moving into the district building, the court had its seat in the town hall from around 1874 to 1932 .

There is a collegial court , individual courts, a labor court and a tenant court. The district court has 65 employees (December 2013). The president of the court is Andreas Oehler.
