District Court of Zurich
The District Court of Zurich is the largest of the twelve district courts in the Canton of Zurich . He is responsible for the Zurich district , which has been congruent with the city of Zurich since mid-1989 . Almost 30,000 procedures are processed every year.
Location
The court is spread over three locations, the head office and administration are housed in the “district building” at Badenerstrasse 90 , other parts of the court are located in the nearby properties at Wengistrasse 28 and 30 . For historical reasons, the jurisdiction of the District Court of Zurich extended until July 1, 2008 to the Dietikon district , which was split off in mid-1989 and now has its own district court; until the completion of the new district building in Dietikon (spring 2010), it was still located at Wengistrasse 28 .

The Zurich District Court is made up of ten collegial departments (the 10th department is formed from the former single judge office for civil and criminal matters), the labor court (again divided into 4 departments), the audience judge office, the single judge office in accelerated and summary proceedings («single court Audience ») including the office of bankruptcy and debt restructuring judge, the tenancy court, the arbitration authority in rental and lease matters and the supervisory authority over the debt enforcement and bankruptcy offices . The district judges in the canton of Zurich are elected by the people.

Around 240 lawyers work for the court. In addition, around 140 employees with commercial training or technical professions work for the court. The president of the court is Marie Schurr ( SP ).
history
The District Court of Zurich was founded in 1798 as a “District Court”, was called “City District Court” from 1803, “District Court” from 1814 and has had its current name since 1831. Until the Federal Administrative Court was created in 2007, it was the largest court in Switzerland.
