The Dietikon district is an urban district in the west of the canton of Zurich in Switzerland , which essentially comprises the Zurich Limmat Valley.
The district was formed on July 1, 1989 by splitting off from the Zurich district. The split was supported by all political parties and approved in March 1985 by a majority of the electorate. The split was only rejected in the communities directly affected. Thereupon a popular initiative was launched which demanded the annulment of the planned district. The popular initiative came to a vote in March 1988 and was again rejected by a majority in the canton.
The first governor of the district was from 1989 to 2001 Werner Pagnoncini ( FDP ). Since 2017 the office has been exercised by Simon Hofmann (FDP).
Until 2008 Dietikon did not have its own district court ; the Zurich district court was responsible . The Dietikon District Court, which has existed since July 2008, was initially housed in the premises of the Zurich colleagues and has been based in the newly constructed district building since the end of March 2010.
