The bhuj (or khutti , katti or elephant knife ) is a polearm from India .

description

The Bhuj has a short, wide and heavy S-shaped blade . This is single-edged and attached to an approximately 50 cm long, metal, round shaft. The blade setting is often made in the shape of an elephant's head, hence the name "elephant knife". On many models, the metal shaft is hollow at the rear end and contains a dagger . A pointed dagger blade is attached to the pommel. The pommel serves as the handle of the dagger and can be pulled out of the shaft of the Bhuj if necessary.

The name implies that the weapon came from the city of Bhuj , but it was also popular in the neighboring Sindh Province (now Pakistan) as well as throughout northern India.

use

The use of the Bhuj corresponds to that of European polearms such as Berdysch or Helmbarte . Bhuj is suitable as a cutting as well as a stabbing weapon . Thanks to the long shaft, the weapon can be wielded with both hands.
