The Biblioteca Universitaria Alessandrina is the central university library of the University of La Sapienza in Rome .
The library was founded in 1667 by Pope Alexander VII . It was originally located in the Palazzo della Sapienza , the former building of the Roman university in the historic city center (on today's Corso del Rinascimento ). In 1935 the library moved into the main building of the university's newly built campus, the so-called Città Universitaria , near Roma Termini train station . Since 1975 the library has been subordinate to the Italian Ministry of Culture ( Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali ).
The library has a stock of around one million printed works, including a significant old stock of 674 incunabula and around 15,000 works from the 16th century, as well as 452 manuscripts.
