The Biblioteca Central de Macau ( Portuguese for Central Library of Macau ) is the national library of the Macau Special Administrative Region of China . She is the recipient of the legal deposit and also the principal library of all Macau public libraries, including the well-known Biblioteca Sir Robert Ho Tung .
The library is located on Avenida Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida , in the historic parish of Freguesia de São Lazaro . It is located in the traditional old town of Macau and is surrounded by Portuguese pavement .
history
The Portuguese colonial administration of Macau founded the Biblioteca Nacional de Macau in 1895 and housed it in a hall of the Santo Agostinho monastery. From 1917 onwards her seat changed several times until she moved into the current building in 1983.
The Biblioteca Nacional de Macau had the Portuguese legal copy for Macau. In 1999, the Portuguese administration of Macau ended, which has now become part of China, but governed itself as a special administrative zone for 50 years in a semi-autonomous manner. Since then, the library has been subject to both Chinese copyright law and legal deposit law (Legislative Decree Decreto-Lei n. ° 43/99 / M of August 16, 1999 on copyright and rights involved, updated by Law Lei n.º 5/2012 of April 10, 2012 ).
The official name also changed afterwards, from the National Library ( Biblioteca Nacional de Macau ) to the Central Library ( Biblioteca Central de Macau ).
The library was renovated in 2007 and since then has 1,371 m² of space and a holdings of 120,161 books, 34,263 of which are documentation on Macau.
