On March 21, 1992, 52 librarians from Eastern Switzerland joined forces to form an interest group of the Association of Libraries and Librarians of Switzerland (BBS) under the name IG Ostschweiz. In 2010 the name was changed to Library Information Eastern Switzerland (bibinfo). The purpose of the association is to represent the interests of those working in the information and documentation sector in Eastern Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein .

The main objectives (according to the statutes of March 11, 2010) are:

  1. Representation of the interests of people working in the information and documentation area (I + D area)
  2. Commitment to the further development and improvement of the I + D system in Eastern Switzerland
  3. Offer a platform for the exchange of information and experience and the organization of further training events for members
  4. Participation in the life of the parent association Library Information Switzerland (BIS)

The association is a member of the Advisory Board of Library Information Switzerland and in this way influences national association policy.
