At 267 meters and 68 floors, the Bicsa Financial Center is the third tallest skyscraper in Panama City . Construction began in 2008 and was completed in 2013. The building was first referred to as the Ice Tower , then the Star Bay Tower , before it was given its current name.

history

Even before the start of the Star Bay Tower project, this was the location on Ave. Balboa has started building a skyscraper called the Ice Tower . With its 104 floors at a height of 381 meters, it was to serve as the answer to the Palacio de la Bahia , which was also planned with 97 floors . However, the project was stopped in the summer of 2007 after the earthworks and the assembly of the steel girders for the foundation had already progressed. In order to prevent corrosion on the steel girders and not to leave a construction pit, the foundation was concreted in the same month. The responsible subcontractors chose a Sunday for this, in order to have the necessary machines and workers available and still be able to fulfill their smaller orders during the week.

In May 2008, work on the construction site was resumed. The project now traded as Star Bay Tower, named after the developing company Star Bay Group . In May 2009 a retaining wall collapsed on the construction site to keep water away from the construction site. In the process, it tore parts of the adjacent sidewalk and a roadway with it and caused the drinking water supply to fail. Also in May 2009, the Hilton hotel chain announced that it would use 27 of the 68 floors for the Hilton Panama, which will have 351 rooms.

On October 10, 2012, a fire broke out in the underground car park on the construction site, which could only be brought under control by 200 firefighters after 23 hours. In addition to the Hilton Hotel, the Banco Internacional de Costa Rica (BICSA) will also be housed in the building, which is why it is also known as the Bicsa Financial Center.

The Hilton Hotel has been operating on the bottom 27 floors since 2013.
