Bidalasana and Bitilasana

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bidalasana ( Sanskrit बिडालासन biḍālāsana ; in German: cat posture ) and Bitilasana ( Sanskrit बितिलासन bitilāsana ; in German: cow posture ) are yoga exercises that are often performed one after the other. The Sanskrit names are formed from the words biḍāl (बिडाल) (meaning: "cat") or bitila (बितिल) (meaning: "cow") and āsana (आसन) (meaning: "seat" or "posture"). Alternatively, Bidalasana is also called Marjariasana ( Sanskrit मार्जरीआसन mārjarīāsana ), which also means cat pose .

Physical execution

The person carrying out the work is supported on the floor “on all four”, that is, with the body parallel to the floor and straight back, on the hands, knees bent and toes (or lower legs and feet). The hands are roughly below the shoulders and the knees below the pelvis. For the "cat", the person begins to bend the spine, from the head towards the pelvis, so that at the end the body resembles the arch of a gate. For the cow, the whole thing is done in the opposite direction, so that at the end the body resembles a “hanging” arch.

aims

There is hardly any research into the effects of individual asanas on health. Based on their own experiences, some yoga authors talk about the effects of the asanas on various organs and conditions. Accordingly, the combination of Bidalasana and Bitilasana is particularly suitable for pregnant women.
