Bidford-upon-Avon [ ˌbɪtfərd əˌpɒn ˈeɪvən ] is a civil parish in the English county of Warwickshire . Bidford-upon-Avon is located south of Birmingham , has a population of 5,830 (2011) and is part of the Stratford-on-Avon district .

history

As a ford, the name refers to the point where the so-called Ryknield Street crossed the Avon in Roman times and also in the Middle Ages .

As a crossing, the Bidford Bridge, a stone bridge with eight arches, from the 15th century, which is still open to traffic, is preserved today. It is protected as a Grade I monument.

The A46 road runs along the western edge of the municipality . The former line of the Stratford-upon-Avon, Towcester and Midland Junction Railway no longer exists since the late 1940s.

A partnership has existed with the German municipality of Ebsdorfergrund in Hesse since 1980.
