Biem is a village in the north of the state of Ruweng in South Sudan .

Biem is located north of the Bahr al-Arab river and thus geographically in the north of Sudan , but ethnically and politically it belongs to South Sudan. Biem is mainly inhabited by cattle-breeding (Kwil-) Dinka .

The place is in the area of the oil deposits of Heglig , southeast of this city, and about 70 kilometers northeast of Bentiu . During the war of civil secession in South Sudan , Biem suffered, not least because of its proximity to the border with North Sudan and the oil fields, which led to hunger among the local population and an influx of internally displaced people . Biem was under the control of the rebels of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army , who carried out attacks on the oil production facilities from here. In 1999 government troops destroyed the village in an offensive.
