The heavy - Reederei BigLift Shipping BV , until 2000 Mammoet Shipping , headquartered in Amsterdam is a subsidiary of the shipping group Spliethoff .

The shipping company was founded in 1973 under the name Mammoet Shipping as part of the heavy lift logistics company Mammoet Transport , which is responsible for shipping . In 1981 the Dutch shipping company Nedlloyd took over the heavy lift shipping company Mammoet. In 1984 the company formed the Mammoet Heavy Lift Partners heavy lift shipping pool . Besides Mammoet (with 16 ships) the shipping companies Project Carriers and Sloman Neptun also took part . The flagship of the joint fleet was the heavy lift freighter Happy Buccaneer, newly built in the same year, with a lifting capacity of two times 550 tons. In 1987 the Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines joined the MHLP pool. In 1988 Mammoet Shipping entered into a joint venture between Mammoet Transport and the shipping company Hansa Linie . In 1994 the Dutch shipping company Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor took over 70% of the shares in Mammoet Shipping , 30% remained with Mammoet Transport . From 1998 new ships of the "Happy-R ..." type were put into service. The following year the shipping company West African Shipping joined Mammoet Heavy Lift Partners with four “Tra…” ships .
In 2000, Nedlloyd , the then parent company of Mammoet Transport , sold the entire Mammoet Group to Van Seumeren , whereupon Van Seumeren also sold the rest of the Mammoet Shipping division to the Spliethoff shipping company. The name changed to BigLift Shipping as a result .
