Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor BV , or Spliethoff for short, is a Dutch shipping company.

history

The Genca drove for Spliethoff from 1961 to 1971

The shipping company was founded in 1921 by the ship broker Johan Frederik Spliethoff. As already during his brokerage activity, the shipping of forest products made up a large part of the shipping business. In 1946, the shipping company, which at that time was managed by Herman Spliethoff, took over its first new ship, the Keizersgracht motor ship . The name of the ship went back to the headquarters of the shipping company on the canal of the same name . In the decades that followed, the company grew steadily, expanding its fleet and services. In 1994 the Dutch shipping company Spliethoff took over 70% of the shares in Mammoet Shipping and in 2000 Mammoet Shipping became a full subsidiary of the shipping company Spliethoff, whereupon the name changed to BigLift Shipping . Also in 2000, Spliethoff acquired the yacht transport specialist Sevenstar Yacht Transport from Amsterdam and acquired a stake in the coastal shipping company Wijnne Barends from Delfzijl . In the summer of 2002, the Spliethoff Group took over the majority of the shares in the RoRo shipping company Transfennica in Helsinki , which specializes in the transport of forest products, and in September 2003 the group became the main shareholder of Wijnne Barends . Together with its subsidiaries, the Spliethoff Group is now the largest ship owner in the Netherlands.
