The Spliethoff A-Type from the Amsterdam- based shipping company Spliethoff is a class of ships comprising eleven multi-purpose ships . The ships built between 1990 and 1992 are currently the oldest ships in the fleet.
The almost 130-meter-long multi-purpose freighters have a deadweight capacity of around 12,900 dwt and a draft of 8.63 meters. The 4950 kW Wärtsilä marine diesel accelerates the ships to a maximum of 13.5 knots. The consumption per day at sea is around 18 tons of HFO . The ships are each equipped with three 40 ton SWL lifting cranes from NMF . This allows loading and unloading operations even in ports without a corresponding superstructure . In the 14,870 m³ large cargo space, the reinforced tank top (maximum load 20 tons / m²) can also accommodate heavy items of cargo . Each of the ships can accommodate 678 TEU .
The ship type is classified by Lloyd's Register and, thanks to the Finnish / Swedish 1A ice class, can also operate in ice.
