Tasks and areas of activity

Bildrecht, at that time 'Verwertungsgesellschaft Bildende Kunst', was founded on May 4, 1977 in the form of an association. The founding members included Erich Huber , Adolf Frohner , Christa Hauer-Fruhmann , Hans Mayr, Hermann Painitz, Karl Rössel-Majdan , Ernst Beranek , Elisabeth Gaisser, Kurt Gerlach, Heidi Grundmann, Erich Kucher, Johann Mohorko, Paul Peschke , Alfred Proksch and Alfred Uhl .

According to the association's statutes, it is the task of Bildrecht GmbH to represent the artists belonging to it to the legislature and to public and private bodies. The association also takes part in drafting the law through negotiations. The collection and distribution of income to its members when using their works is one of their tasks, as is the protection of the rights of their members against third parties. The Bildrecht has the power to exercise these rights in court. It is also important to conclude contracts with user organizations such as ORF , cable TV companies, empty cassette importers, federal and state governments. Bildrecht operates throughout Austria. Furthermore, through networking with partner organizations, it ensures that the rights it manages are exercised worldwide. Bildrecht supports artists in need and is committed to promoting young artists.

organization

The association for visual arts, photography and choreography aims to promote the interests of visual artists, photographers and choreographers in all legal, professional, economic, social and cultural-political matters. Bildrecht GmbH was founded in order to be able to represent these interests and to be able to act within the framework of a society according to collecting society law. Bildrecht GmbH is the external body of the association. All members are shareholders of the GmbH. During the general assembly, the members elect the board. The board consists of visual artists from all fields. The president of the association is elected from among the board members.

The president, the representative of the shareholders, also elected an advisory board during the general assembly. This consists of members of the board of directors and takes an active part in the decision-making processes of Bildrecht GmbH in the context of advisory board meetings.

The members can decide for themselves at each general meeting about essential issues that affect the association. The founders considered this opportunity for co-determination to be essential, as all members contribute parts of their capital to the Bildrecht in the form of copyrights.

Günter Schönberger has been Managing Director since July 1, 2010, succeeding Karin Lobentanz. The association is formed under President Jaochim-Lothar Gartner and the Vice Presidents Heinz Zwazl and Bert Gstettner.

Bildrecht is a member of the umbrella company, in which 160 copyright societies worldwide in all areas (music, literature, visual arts) are united. This is called CISAC (Confédération Internationale des Sociétés d'Auteurs et Compositeurs). Bildrecht is also a member of the EVA (European Visual Artists), in which all European copyright societies work together in the interests of their members on the copyright level.

Like all collecting societies, image rights are also subject to the supervision of the authority.

Bildraum 01, Bildraum 07 and Bildraum Bodensee
