Funding projects

School competitions

Germany's best young mathematicians: the winners of the 2018 federal mathematics competition.

The federal foreign languages competition and the federal mathematics competition have the longest tradition in promoting education and talent. The aim of the competitions is to encourage young people to face new challenges, develop their talents and exchange ideas with one another. With various competition formats and categories, on the one hand, a broad base of students is addressed, and on the other, particularly capable students are challenged. In order to effectively promote talent, the prizes are often scholarships, language trips or research internships at home and abroad.

The Talent Promotion Center also organizes the selection competition for the International Mathematics Olympiad . In cooperation with the Mathematik-Olympiaden eV, Bildung & Ababung also forms the office of the German Mathematics Olympiad . The Mathematics Olympiad is a multi-stage competition, the first three stages of which are organized under the responsibility of the federal states. The fourth round (federal round) takes place annually in a central state.

The funding program “Jugend trains Mathematik” (JuMa) is designed as a nationwide funding measure, especially for young schoolchildren from grade 7 onwards. JuMa aims to bring the participants up to the level of the two nationwide mathematics competitions, the federal mathematics competition and the mathematics Olympiad in the higher levels.

Academies

Participants in the German Schools Academy in Torgelow.

With different academy formats, Education & Talent supports students during the summer vacation. The academy format with the longest tradition is the German Student Academy, which has existed since 1988 . In the 16-day summer academy, particularly talented and motivated high school students work together in courses on various scientific topics at university level. The spectrum ranges from mathematics to natural, engineering, humanities, law and economics courses to topics from the musical and artistic field.

Since 2003, based on the model of the German Student Academy, the German Junior Academy for motivated students from grade 7 upwards has been carried out. The offer goes back to an initiative that Rhineland-Palatinate initiated together with Baden-Württemberg, Saarland and Education & Talent. In the meantime, events are offered in junior academies in numerous countries during the summer and autumn holidays. The program is coordinated by Education & Talent, regional organizations and the federal states implement it.

With the role model academy and the talent academy, Education & Talent has been offering funding formats since 2011 that are intended to appeal to young people from all types of schools and cultures of origin. In the role model academies for young people with a migration background, in addition to the work in the courses, the focus is on orientation knowledge about studying and training. In the TalentAkademie, young people from secondary school to high school come together to work together on projects, discover new forms of learning and develop their own potential.

Information, networking, training

In addition to funding projects for schoolchildren, Education & Talent brings together findings from talent research and funding practice, networks actors from various areas of talent promotion and offers information and events for different target groups. Once a year the center for talent development organizes the symposium "Perspective Talent", which is aimed at actors from talent promotion and highlights a current educational topic. With the website Begabungslotse (www.begabungslotse.de), Bildung & Begabung also operates an online portal on which parents, teachers and students can find information from all areas of talent development.
