Contents of the educational philosophy

As part of the educational philosophy, the perceived reality is described and critically reflected. With reference to the present representations, possibilities of general and specific human education are discussed and the societal legitimacy of educational goals, educational subjects and educational pathways is asked. At the center of the philosophy of education are philosophical and ethical principles of educational action, which carefully accompanies educating subjects to alienate themselves from their immediate individual nature, to appropriate the objects of the world outside of themselves and not to lose them, but to come back to themselves, namely one Self richer in objective knowledge and in differential judgment and thus at the same time free. Critical investigations and assessments of educational institutions refer to connections between educational philosophy and educational sociology .

Tasks of the educational philosophy

The educational philosophy analyzes and criticizes pedagogical knowledge and beliefs. This means that it analyzes what is pedagogically relevant and what claims pedagogical validity.

The educational philosophy takes on normative tasks, such as uncovering the background of the should requirements and addressing these requirements. For example, the discussion about all-day school . What consequences does it have for the family constellation? One ponders speculatively what if?

Another task of the educational philosophers is to question such demands in terms of their requirements, consequences and contexts.

Educational philosophy asks what the subject of educational science is, what is pedagogical . Education philosophy expands, clarifies and orientates our knowledge, thinking and speaking about pedagogical issues.

Educational philosophy should make a contribution to the public education debate. Your contribution should consist in delivering broad, publicly accessible and understandable arguments that contribute to the formation of judgments.
