Keira Rathbone

Keira Rathbone (* 1983 in Reading ) has been a British typewriter art and performance artist since 2003 . She lives and works in her studio in west London in the Chiswick district .

Her work tools are her mechanical typewriters , which she takes from her collection of over 30 copies. In contrast to the computational methods, which are also known as ASCII Art , she draws her pictures by repeatedly tapping the types by hand while simultaneously pressing the paper roller. She searches for her motifs while traveling all over Great Britain, e.g. B. at festivals, or takes it spontaneously from the situation. Your pictures will be exhibited in galleries in the UK. They include portraits as well as landscapes and still lifes . When she goes on tour with her typewriter , she always dresses appropriately for the age of the typewriter used. In addition, she also draws portraits of well-known personalities and designs her own t-shirt collection with her works. This type of art was pioneered by the American artist and chess player Paul Smith in the early 1940s. According to her own statements, her idea of ​​doing Typewriter Art came about when she once lacked inspiration while writing literary on a typewriter, so she began to draw with the machine instead.
