Education system in St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha

Education in the British overseas territory of St. Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha is regulated, organized and financed by the state. The three equal sub-areas St. Helena , Ascension and Tristan da Cunha are closely based on the school system in the United Kingdom . Schooling is free.

There are no tertiary educational institutions in the overseas territory.

St. Helena

Prince Andrew

On St. Helena that's Directorate of Education ( German  about Education Directorate ) for the educational system responsible. It has 148 employees.

The basic education between the fourth and eleventh year of life is in three primary schools offered:

  • Harford
  • Pilling
  • St Paul's with 240 students (as of 2014)

With Prince Andrew, a school is available for secondary education. There are also special programs for students with special needs and adult education.

With SHAPE, there is also a facility for training disabled people on St. Helena .

Since September 2016, the St Helena Community College has been an educational institution for vocational training , second-level education and other further training and education.

Ascension

Ascension has a combined primary and secondary school, the Two Boats School . In addition to free school attendance, a free kindergarten is also offered from the age of three. There are 12 teachers at the Two Boats School.

Tristan da Cunha

On the main island of Tristan da Cunha there is an educational institution for primary and secondary education, the St Mary school . The university education of the inhabitants of the archipelago is co-financed by an education fund . The education sector on the island is overseen and managed by the government's education department.
