William M. Weiss

William "Bill" M. Weiss (born September 15, 1907 in Philadelphia , United States , † November 12, 2001 in New York City ) was an American film producer of animated films .

Live and act

Bill Weiss graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and joined the film business at a young age. For many years he served as managing director, general manager and finally as vice president of Terrytoons, a production company of the animator Paul Terry specializing in animated films . Since the mid-1950s, Weiss worked regularly as a producer of terrytoons, but at no time could their output come close to the importance or distribution of that of the largest competitor in this segment, Walt Disney . In 1959 the Weiss short film production Sidney's Family Tree was nominated for an Oscar . At the same time as Terry's death in 1971, Weiss also ended his production activities.
